The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County will again partner with Briarwood Mall on Friday to host the Washtenaw County Unforgettable Kettle Kick Off.

The program will include a free, festive musical event with special performances including Laith al-Saadi, who was a finalist on “The Voice.” This unforgettable kick off to the holiday season begins at 11 a.m. and will feature live performances from Laith’s longtime friend and music legend, pianist Jim King, as well as Detroit jazz musicians Isis Damil and Zion Israel.

Hear how the Washtenaw County Salvation Army has impacted our local community, and how it fits into the international challenges that 2017 has faced. Maj. Kris Wood reminds us, “The Salvation Army is fighting for the forgettable people of the community that they will be Unforgettable this holiday season.”

In addition to the Salvation Army’s iconic red kettle campaign, it is also the kickoff to their Angel Tree program.  It allows community members to select an angel tag with a local child’s age, gender, size and suggested items.  Donations can be brought to Briarwood Mall California Pizza Kitchen and the new store Altar’d State thru December 18.  Katlyn Ciaravino, manager of the California Pizza Kitchen, has participated with the Angel Tree program for the past two years, and continues this tradition in 2017.  Ciaravino says, “CPK and I believe in supporting the community that we serve.  I personally find it heartwarming to see the community get involved as well as our staff.”

If you would like to be involved as a bell ringer, call Susan Carey at (734) 668-8353.

Donations can further be made through Mobile Cause by texting the word, Unforgettable to 41444.

Usually, this just means Jim, one of our partners, uploaded the article. There’s an off chance it could be an intern, though, so be nice.
