This press release about a documentary being made about Ann Arbor’s Community High School just popped in over the transom.

Producers of the independent documentary film “Commie High: The Film” (working title) are partnering with the Ann Arbor District Library to make extra project content publicly available following the release of the film.

This partnership will create an online archive for the project, focused on Community High School, which was founded in 1972 in downtown Ann Arbor, MI. Serving as a non-linear transmedia platform, this partnership will allow the public to explore extra content generated through the project, including: archival photos, a CHS music database, digital versions of ephemera (such as flyers, posters, artworks), archival footage and short extra films.

Producer/Director, Donald Harrison, shared his perspective, “The AADL is an ideal partner for sharing and preserving our project’s surplus of great content. They have an excellent commitment to preserving Ann Arbor’s rich history and a tremendous capacity for building effective, accessible public archives.”

The Director of AADL, Josie Parker, added that “AADL is delighted to be a part of this exciting project. The history of Community High is a great local story. We look forward to providing an online home for all the articles, photos videos and music being pulled together into an engaging archive for the community.”

The documentary project received over $53,000 of initial funding for a half hour version via 450 backers through a Kickstarter campaign in April, 2016. The project’s producers are expanding the film to feature length and continuing their fundraising efforts with Artrain serving as their fiscal sponsor.

“Commie High: The Film” began production summer of 2016 and anticipates completion of principle film production in fall of 2017. Release of the completed documentary is slated for 2018. A timeline for publishing the online digital archive is not yet available.
